Jack Nicholson’s Finest Acting Performances In Recent Memory
Jack Nicholson is without a doubt of the greatest actors of his generation, if not ever. There are so many movies that the man has starred in which have achieved iconic status, either from audiences, critics, the Academy or all of the above. When discussing the best Nicholson films, it is important to cite several films which help to showcase Jack’s versatility.
This article will highlight my top five favorite Jack Nicholson films of all time.
The first movie I will mention is his most recently awesome movie, which was The Departed. It is hard to believe that director Martin Scorsese had never won an Academy Award for Best Director prior to this film.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s nest is simply put, one of the greatest pieces of American cinema ever created. Jack plays a mental patient that leads a coup against an evil nurse at an insane asylum and the scenes are memorable, to say the least.
Another classic Jack Nicholson film is of course, The Shining. I don’t think audiences realized how scary Jack could be prior to this Stanley Kubrick iconic horror film. If you are a fan of a genre, this is one of the most important films to see.
I normally do not care for romantic comedies, but Terms Of Endearment, which was released in 1983, was a very enjoyable film to watch. And this is coming from a guy who does not care for the genre normally. This movie also stars Danny DeVito, Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger.
One other movie I will mention is About Schmidt. This movie is very dark and both humorous and upsetting at the same time. It is such a departure from any other type of role Jack has played.
These are just some of the notable films that Nicholson has starred in over the years, and surely there are others.
